Former BBC presenter convicted of stalking for online abuse

A former BBC radio presenter who now presents on You Tube  has been found guilty of stalking four victims.

Alex Belfield (42) continually used emails, twitter and his You tube channel to publish videos about his victims, including someone who had declined to support him in pursuing a grudge, people who spoke out against his conduct towards others and a national broadcaster whom he falsely accused of underhand financial dealings.

Under hate crime legislation the courts must pass increased sentences where prosecutors evidence that offences either demonstrate or have been motivated by hostility towards a person’s race, religion, disability, transgender identity or sexuality. Oldham man jailed for manslaughter

Jamie Kennedy, 24 from Oldham, has been jailed today at Manchester Crown Court following the death of 60-year-old Robert Payne.

Inmate sentenced for throwing boiling water in the face of prison guard

An inmate who threw boiling water into the faces of a prison guard and a vulnerable fellow prisoner at HMP Wandsworth has today been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment. 

Joel Deeny, 34, admitted offences of causing grievous bodily harm and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm on 14 February 2022, and was sentenced on Thursday, 28 July, at Southwark Crown Court.

Under the hate crime legislation, courts must treat offences more seriously where there is evidence that the offender demonstrated hostility on the basis of the victim’s actual or presumed race, religion, disability, transgender identity or sexual orientation, or the offence was motivated on the basis of hostility towards one of these characteristics. Stephen Clavering, 45, was jailed for seven and a half years at Hull Crown Court yesterday (28 July) for sexually assaulting his former girlfriend and sending her a stream of increasingly abusive and threatening messages.
